CIVIL LITIGATION

Our law firm that represents plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of cases. The civil litigation lawyers at the firm have extensive experience representing clients in matters involving City and State Agencies.  The firm has also successfully represented numerous survivors of sexual abuse and assault.

The formal civil litigation process involves filing and serving on the other side a summons and complaint.  This begins a civil lawsuit.  The complaint should be a short and concise statement of the wrong done by the other side and the damages that were caused.  Once a complaint is filed, the other side (now formally the defendants) must answer the complaint and, assuming a court does not dismiss the complaint at the outset as defective, discovery (exchange of documents and testimony) takes place.  If the case is not resolved at that point, the matter will go to trial.

Sometimes cases can be resolved before formal litigation is necessary.  The civil litigation attorneys at Patrick Edwards Law Firm have extensive experience handling all facets of the civil litigation process, including alternative dispute resolution such as mediation.
